Action & Assessment Plan
Intervention
The action plan I want to implement for my intermediate algebra and statistics students involves providing students with opportunities to collaborate and use technology on in-class activities and assessments. The results of the student needs assessment, research compiled in my literature review, and my teaching observations have led to my decision of incorporating technology and giving collaborative assessments in my secondary mathematics classroom. The intention behind this course of action is for students to gain experience using technology while they work collaboratively on complex mathematical problems. I believe in the twenty-first century, a students ability to solve complex problems while collaborating with others, is an essential characteristic for higher education. Therefore, my action plan is based on evaluating the effects of integrating technology and collaboration on student learning.
A key component of my action plan is the integration of collaborative activities, and I have decided to begin my action plan with an evaluation of my students collaborative capabilities through an interactive project. Students will create hot dog cookers (Appendix 3.c.) based on parabolic structures that they will design and create in groups. Following the completion of the project, students will receive a feedback form (Appendix 3.a.) where they will be able to provide data on their experience collaborating. This project will allow me to monitor group interactions, and will provide me with insight into how the students perceive working in collaborative groups on complex tasks.
Another component of my action plan is showing students technological resources available for mathematical understanding; primarily the internet and calculator functions. I plan on showing the students these resources and monitoring how often and effectively the students are able to use their resources providing another opportunity to collect data on student learning.

Data Collection Tools
I plan on using three different methods for data collection:
- My teacher journal observations.
- Student responses to attitude feedback forms.
- Student assessment scores.
